MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF
TRUSTEES
Respected Elders, Brothers & Sisters,
Milestones are an important part of journey. They reflect the distance
travelled and show the road ahead. Milestones are also occasions to
pause and celebrate, regroup and refuel for the journey ahead. In
Alipore Social Welfare Trust, we look at milestones that reflect value
as seen by our elders, our colleagues, our well-wishers, our donors, our
beneficiaries, our patients and our volunteers. Year 2007-08 saw another
impressive performance by ASWT. We delivered all-round growth, built and
sustained our services while continuing to invest in the future.
We
are pleased to inform you that our team members in all hierarchy
continued to perform well. The management has unveiled a challenge –
that being way ‘Distinctly Ahead’ and the philosophy has been outlined
in this year’s Management Discussion and Analysis. Every milestone that
we cross, enthuses us to do more. But what gives us deep satisfaction is
our consistent performance. We believe that our consistency is a result
of our strategic insights, the conviction to invest on those insights
and the ability to rigorously execute and convert the insights to
reality. Achieving these landmarks, in a tough environment for the
services provided by us in Healthcare and Educational Reliefs and
Scholarships was satisfying. Extending our track record set over past
thirteen years was rewarding.
This
brings us to the key question. Can we continue to deliver just as well
in future? We are confident we can. Our confidence stems from the six
fundamental factors- the healthcare environment, our donors trust and
support, our strategic initiatives, our socio-economic scenario, our
local aspiring students aim to achieve their goals and our passion to
look beyond the services we render. Achievements do not happen in
vacuum. Hey say success is a journey not a destination. And we at ASWT
feel privileged to tell you that we are journeying tirelessly together,
spreading footprints on these landscapes.
Firstly we, the trustees of Alipore Social Welfare Trust, express our
sincere gratitude to Almighty and Most Merciful for selecting us for the
service to Mankind. Alipore Social Welfare Trust was established with a
view to serve human beings with best possible way in the remote village
surrounded by around 80 villages where there are inadequate modern
facilities for the treatment of sick patients. We all hereby thank all
of you who have been helpful and have given your time, money and effort
for the service of the sick. Without the donors, Alipore Hospital would
not have been as it is of today.
Secondly, our aims and objectives are to serve the local community and
surrounding population with best medical reliefs and services in our
Hospital/Mobile Dispensaries or Charitable Dispensary and Medical Camps,
create Health Awareness, Ambulance Services, help, encourage and fund
the eligible and aspiring needy and poor students in achieving Higher
Educations especially in Medical and Para-Medical and other Career-Based
Higher Educations, and give scholarships, and also help develop
villages.
Thirdly, Technology is the springboard to the future. It is a bridge
between aspiration and accomplishment. Every technological achievement
is both destination and point of departure for one breakthrough leads to
another........ and another. If technology drives hospitals than what
drives technology. The answer lies in human mind, in a spirit that is
impatient with the status quo and in the soaring flight of imagination.
Here
we take opportunity inform to you regarding our activities, hence we
start with Alipore Hospital Project.
A) ALIPORE HOSPITAL
ASWT’s participation in building a healthy community manifests itself
through initiatives in several areas of healthcare. Alipore Hospital has
been serving the sick for the past 7 years, without any bar of caste,
creed, colour or religion. We would like to remind you, that we did
mentioned in our earlier report, on the 1st anniversary of Alipore
Hospital, the services rendered in various departments and the
operations performed here were never imagined or heard previously in
this part of the country where a patient has no other option and have to
suffer severely. This was only possible because of Almighty's mercy and
prayers and good wishes of all the elders, youngsters and benefactors.
“When Health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot
manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless and intelligence
cannot be applied.”
1) ALL TREATMENTS UNDER ONE ROOF
Our
aim is to serve and provide good and adequate healthcare to the sick and
needy patients, treating them with the best available medical facilities
at this hospital by our team of medical consultants of the various
departments under one roof. This we achieved by personally contacting
medical consultants from nearby cities and towns, requesting and
encouraging them to visit Alipore Hospital and by offering them
excellent facilities and infrastructure for operations and other medical
investigations in our premises. Technology and adopting frequent updated
equipment just adds to the better services we could provide.
Propagating and Educating Healthcare and bringing Health Awareness was a
challenge to us, as most of the public around here are either illiterate
or less educated. To achieve our goal in creating a good health
awareness we started a programme of Free Mobile Dispensary Services (FMDS)
in which we dispatch a Team of Medical Experts to various villages and
treat the inhabitants right on their doorsteps.
Since the inauguration(4th June, 2001) of Alipore Hospital,
services we have rendered General Surgery and Emergency (Casualty)
Departments and then we began introducing various departments one after
another in the next three years, like Cardiology and General Medicine,
Orthopaedic, Radiology and Sonology ICCU & Surgical ICU, Pathology,
Ear-Nose-Throat, Psychology, Dermatology, Urology, Gynaecology, Neuro-Surgery
Consulting, Pediatric, Imaging, Anaesthesia, Laparoscopy and
Arthroscopy, Heamo-Dialysis Department and a Medical Store, so as to
enable all the services under one roof.
Right now we have a Full-Time General Physician & Cardiologist, Female
Gynaecologist, General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Full-Time Orthopaedic
Surgeon, and a full time Anaesthetist apart from daily Dental Surgery.
We also have qualified Housemen to look after our patients
round-the-clock. Since January 2002, we introduced Free OPD check-up /
consulting by our Medical Officers. Also One-Day Medicine is given at a
token rate of Rs. 5/- per day.

E) ALIPORE HOSPITAL
AMBULANCE SERVICE
Since inception of Alipore
Hospital, on 4th June 2001, the day the medical services were introduced
in the Alipore Hospital, we had introduced Ambulance Service with a
small Ambulance Vehicle. In the year 2004-05, we felt the need of a full
fledged ICCU and Trauma Care Ambulance Service with all Life Savings
Equipments and Drugs. We hereby extend our deep gratitude to all the
donors of the United Kingdom who came forward and contributed generously
towards this Ambulance Project. Right now we have a state-of-art,
Multi-purpose ICCU-cum-Trauma Care Ambulance Vehicle which has been a
boon to the local population as well as highway users apart from a small
ambulance vehicle. In near future, we shall require small Ambulance
costing around Rs. 400,000/- for which donors are requested to
contribute generously.
F)
ALIPORE HOSPITAL EXPANSION PROJECT
Work for the Third floor and
also at the campus and compound wall is under progress. There was an
acute need for increasing the capacity of wards / beds and other
facilities and services. Alipore Hospital has been running in its
optimum, many times there are frequent shortages of wards / beds due to
over occupancy of wards. It is said pictures are better than thousand
words. Frequent pictorial updates are available in our website.
G) DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Department of Education has
three departments, namely- ASWT Education Relief And Scholarship Fund,
ASWT Alipore Hospital Para Medical & English Teaching Institute And
Practical Training To Nurses And Laboratory Technician.
i) ASWT EDUCATION RELIEF &
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Education is the need of the day. We, at and around Alipore lag behind
as far as higher education is concerned. Hence we have introduced this
fund to help eligible, poor and needy students from the area for higher
education. Muslim Aid UK has generously contributed towards this
scholarship programe under The Rainbow Family –Scholarship Programme.
In the coming pages we have provided details about ASWT Education Relief
& Scholarship Fund. Frequent updates are also available at our website.
ii) PRACTICAL TRAINING TO
NURSES & LABORATORY TECHNICIANS
At Alipore Hospital,
we are giving practical training to nursing students more than half a
decade. We are proud to inform you that we certify their experience
after which these student nurses are able to seek for jobs in the
hospitals around their area and in this way we help them achieve
self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
Till date, we have certified
hundreds of student nurses. We would like to inform you that unlike in
other hospitals, we are giving these practical trainings to these
students without any fees or charges. We also give practical trainings
to DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician) Students without any
fees or charges. After certification, they are able to seek for Jobs in
any Pathological Laboratories in the country. We have certified more
than 200 trained nurses from our areas working in various hospitals and
primary healthcares, our trained laboratory technicians and our trained
X-Ray Technicians are now serving the population in many medical
clinics.
Our Para-Medical Students
are fortunate to get the exposure they get in various departments under
Specialists and Super-Specialist Consultant Doctors. These students,
mostly from poor and under-privileged families, get the benefit to use
various types of modern equipments without any charges or fees. The
experience they get and their exposure under different hierarchy of
Medical Consultant Officers they face itself gives enough scope and
experience they need for their bright future.
iii) PROPOSED ASWT PARA
MEDICAL & ENGLISH TEACHING INSTITUTE
To educate is to empower.
But although everybody has the fundamental right to education in India,
not many have access to it. We plan to start Para-Medical Education
Institute where we can train Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Laboratory
Technician and X-ray Technician Institute where we can render
Theoretical as well as Practical Training. Plan to start English
Teaching School is also under process. This campus will have
well-educated staffs and shall also have lodging and boarding facilities
for students from the far away villages. Through ASWT Education Relief
and Scholarship Fund, we have started the Education Awareness programme
by directly contacting people from all villages and set up a committee
which comprises of educationists, elders, school teachers or principals
and other professionals. We extend our deep gratitude to all those
people from various villages for their deep concern they have shown
towards the education needs in our community. For this project we
require feedbacks from all the people from Alipore and surrounding
villages to come forward and send us their opinions and suggestions.
H) ALIPORE HOSPITAL PATIENT
RELIEF FUND (AHPRF)
At Alipore Hospital,
majority patients are from poor and under-privileged families. Alipore
Hospital Patient Relief Fund was introduced to help the patients for
hospital and medicine bills. We are proud to state that this fund has
been very useful for these poor and needy patients. Alipore Hospital
Patient Relief Fund gives medical reliefs to all the poor people without
any bar of caste, creed, colour or religion. Here we thank all our
Sadaqah Fund Coin-Box Donors to make this fund possible.
I) HEALTH AWARENESS
PROGRAMMES
Our aim is to serve the
community with modern medical facilities at a very low expenditure,
create health and medical awareness amongst the local populations.
Proper hygiene is taught. Preventive care is always necessary which is
taken into priority. We also try to generate suitable job and medical
and para-medical education related job opportunities. If we can get your
continued support, good wishes, prayers and generous contributions
towards these noble causes, then our aim will be achieved.
Patients care is our first
priority and we will try our best to take care of them. For which we
humbly request co-operation from you. Your suggestions, comments and
advice are most welcome and may prove beneficial to us in serving the
sick in the best possible way.
J) ASWT ALIPORE HOSPITAL
DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Gujarat State has, in the
past few years, experienced worst of disasters like earthquakes,
cyclone, torrential rainfall leading to massive floods epidemic spread
out and communal riots. To keep our selves ready for relief works the
members of Alipore Social Welfare Trust’s have launched a fund which is
called ASWT Alipore Hospital Disaster Relief Fund”. During the recent
flood in Surat, ASWT Alipore Hospital Disaster Relief Fund had done
commendable relief works. We all thank Almighty and Most Merciful that
during the year we had not experienced any natural disaster. To keep
ourselves ready for any unforeseen natural disaster we do require
keeping ourselves ready. Hence we require to maintain and secure this
fund in handy.
K) VOLUNTEERING
Social responsibility is
born in personal conviction, a matter of individual choice. At ASWT, a
climate conducive to the spirit of volunteering enables these activities
to be virtually self-driven while remaining consistent and
structured. “Winning comes from teamwork.” From taking initiatives in
building the next generation of productive citizens, to organizing
various health and educational camps, visiting other healthcares,
institutions, etc we and our volunteers have always believed in truly
making a difference to the world in which we live. Our volunteers worked
round-the-clock during the recent Surat Flood Disaster and outburst of
epidemic.
L) PARTICIPATION IN
GOVERNMENT SCHEME
Department of Health,
Government of Gujarat, has introduced “Chiranjeevi Yojana” in which the
Hospitalisation Cost of Patient’s Below Poverty Line (BPL) are given
Free Services in order to curb Pregnancy Deaths. Alipore Hospital has
joined hands with the Department of Health and is serving these
expectant mothers. We would also like to congratulate Government of
Gujarat for the Emergency Service rendered by them via 108 Programme.
The Ambulance Services under 108 has become very popular and has been
widely accepted by the local population. Alipore Hospital has been
supporting this service and have always co-operated and rendered full
support to 108 Emergency Programme.
M) GOVERNMENT RECOGNITION
Alipore Social Welfare Trust
is a Charity Registered Public Trust. Alipore Hospital is recognized by
District Health Department. District Health Department has frequently
organized their meetings at our Hospital’s Conference Room. ASWT is
registered under Foreign Contribution Regulations Act, with the Ministry

management will always be agile in keeping all the records right,
up-to-date and transparent.

O) LATE AHMED MAYET HOSPITAL
BUILDING
Since more than 35 years the
building meant for Hospital used as been lying vacant along the Highway
Road in Alipore. This building has been under the possession of Alipore
Muslim Association, South Africa(AMA SA). AMA SA passed a resolution to
handover the abovesaid building to Alipore Social Trust for Maternity
and Paeditric Facilities. But as Alipore Hospital has these Department
Facilities in the Hospital Building itself and the Programme of ‘All
Treatment Under One Roof’ has been a big success we have requested AMA
SA to permit us to use for any other purpose for the welfare of the
community which is acceptable as per the aims and objectives of the
trust. We are still waiting for the response from AMA SA. Here we would
like to extend our deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the
members of AMA SA who had taken this step and have felt ASWT fit for
taking possession of this building.
P)
ORBITUARIES
Every living object has to
face the reality – Death. But when we lose some visionary or our
respected elders it is considered to be one of the major loss which is
not replaceable and the vaccum still remains. We had faced two major
setbacks, during the year, due to the sad demise of the Two Great Sons
of our Soil. Firstly when we lost Late Haji Ismail Hassan Mayet, Chaiman
Emeritus of Alipore Social Welfare Trust and Secondly when Late Haji
Ebrahim Ismail Patel, a social worker, who had served the community by
paying integral part in Alipore Jamaat and Waterworks for most of the
part of his life and who also was an ardent supporter of our projects,
left us for heavenly abode. We would like to remind you all that,
Alipore Hospital Project was a vision and brainchild of Late Haji Ismail
Hassan Mayet. His good wishes and duaas for all the Projects of ASWT
have been tremendous. ‘May Almighty Bestow them with Highest of all
stages in Jannah-tul-Firdaus(Paradise). – Ameen!
